Too  numerous  years  pass,  however,  when  we  lose  sight  of  these  lofty  goals  and  before  the  end  of  the  primary  quarter,  we&#8217;re  already  off  our  game  and  back  to  smoking,  back  to  sleeping  in,  off  the  each and everyday  scheme  of  going  to  the  gym.</p>
<p>This  isn&#8217;t  a  post  when it comes to  how  to  stay  on  track  with  your  goals.  This  isn&#8217;t  when it comes to  making  littler  steps  in  amid  mileposts  or  pinning  up  a  big  calendar  to  your  wall  and  filling  it  up  with  black  X&#8217;s  each  time  you  finish  another  day  on  the  plus  side.</p>
<p><strong>Achieving  the  Goal  of  Going  Green</strong></p>
<p>I  like  to  think  with regards to  the  goals  I  want  to  achieve  in  as  realistic  a  manner  possible. <p>That  said,  here  is  a  list  of  ten  tiny,  realistic  steps  that  I  am  going  to  take  this  year  to  go  more  green.  If  we  all  do  what  we  may  to  even  uphold  a  few  of  these  things,  the  positive  affect  on  our  environs  would  be  huge.</p>
<p><strong>Ten  Easy  Ways  to  Positively  Impact  the  Environment</strong></p>
<p>1.)  <strong>Support  Farmer&#8217;s  Markets</strong></p>
<p>Buying  local  has  a  dramatic  affect  on  both  your  health  and  the  environment. There  are  over  100  billion  plastic  buying goods  bags  applied  in  the  United  States  each  year.  Less  than  1%  are  recycled.  Why  not  use  a  bag  that  you  may  use  over  and  over  again?</p>

They work well, and four of them are just about perfect for grocery shopping for a family of four.  The long handle is great, and the construction is good quality.  My only complaints are; 1., the price.  They&#8217;re pretty expensive for a bag.  I found after I purchased them that they&#8217;re more reasonably priced on the manufacturers website, and they often have shipping deals.  My other complaint is major.  The first time I washed the bags, they shrunk to about half the size, and I did NOT put them in the dryer.  I liked them much better before I washed them.  That said, they do the job and I like that they&#8217;re fair wage.  From now on, I&#8217;ll buy them direct from the manufacturer and not wash them until I absolutely have to.</p>

The dimensions that are given are for the bag prior to being washed. In other words, the canvas was not preshrunk before the bag was assembled. The bag shrunk in size by over an inch in width and height. I have several other canvas bags, so I know how to care for canvas bags. They are to be washed in cold water and hung to dry. The canvas material used in making these bags was very thin and inferior. I would not recommend these bags, as I believe it is not a quality product.</p>

Kingsbury<br />Very nice Rice Dispenser.  Easily holds a 50 pound bag of rice.  Buying rice in bulk saves you some serious cash if you eat a lot of it and we do.  The dispenser unit itself is pretty basic, just 2 settings (1/2 and 1 cup), but it works like a charm.  On top of all that it is priced well under the other large dispensers offered on Amazon.  All in all you can&#8217;t go wrong with this product.</p>

One day, we discovered maggots and other critters int he old one and decided to get a new one. For the price, this does its job. It seems sturdy enough to hold 30-50lbs of rice. However, I wish the dispenser itself was a bit better designed.</p>
<p>The dispenser is essentially a little rectangular piece that you pull out and then put back in. Each time you do this, one cup of rice falls into the bottom drawer. Then you take the drawer out and put it wherever. The accuracy of the 1 cup doesn&#8217;t seem to be too great, however. Fortunately, my mom is an expert at cooking rice, so she can adjust water levels accordingly.</p>
<p>Overall, it seems like a sturdy product, but some design flaws keep it from being perfect.</p>

It does what it&#8217;s supposed to do. But a little disappointed the top plastic cover doesn&#8217;t fit the lower part very well, and I have to put something heavy on top of it to make sure the dispenser is tightly sealed. overall, i don&#8217;t regret getting this. It&#8217;s cheaper and looks nicer than most other dispensers while having a bigger capacity.</p>

A few near-miss accidents had occurred, with wine bottles rolling loose on the shelf and the awkwardness of finding that the desired bottle was (inevitably) on the bottom made it clear this was a poor idea. The gift of a case and a half of bottles finally convinced me I needed better storage. My horizontal space was adequate, while vertical space was somewhat limited. The fact that the storage was behind doors eliminated the need for &#8220;pretty&#8221; shelves, and the pricing of these was very reasonable (particularly with a special running). A lot of much more expensive shelves with far less capacity are available, and the storage units are very sturdy. Although they are defined as 6-bottle containers, the uppermost container has room for three more bottles on top. Some of the thicker sparkling wine bottles do not fit in the container itself but they do store on the top.</p>

I stacked them two high on some wire shelving in the basement and just ordered more to create a mini wine cellar with them.  You can also put three bottles on the top of each container as there is an indentation that will keep them in place so in reality you can store 9 bottles with each if they are not stacked. Tweedel<br />I finally convinced my wife to replace the old but still functional single switch rice cooker I&#8217;d owned for about 10 years. I have longed for something with an off switch so rice doesn&#8217;t burn to the bottom when I forget to unplug it. This guy was the ticket.</p>
<p>It seems like a fairly complex machine but its really easy to use once you understand the setup. Its well designed. The pot is easy to clean and the inner lid snaps off for easy cleaning as well.</p>
<p>I have to say the rice it produces is some of the best I have had. I did a side by side cookoff with the old and the new rice cookers. The same rice just seemed to have more consistant texture and better strong flavor. Definatley worth the upgrade since we do lots of rice.</p>
<p>The one drawback I found is with the somewhat misleading specifications. They say this is a &#8220;5 cup&#8221; rice cooker. So I&#8217;m thinking 5 cups=40oz. Plenty big enough for a family of 4. Well its not quite that much. It seems in Asia (on the metric system) their idea of a cup is a teacup. If you look at the picture and see the two little cups next to the machine, it will hold 5 of THOSE cups. Those cups are approximatley 6oz each. So really it is a 4 (American) cup rice cooker, not 5. Of course 3/4 of a cup is about how much rice you&#8217;ll eat in a meal so one run of this machine should be able to produce rice for 5. If you need more that that consider the NS-ZAC18 10 cup (8 cup) model.</p>
<p>The trick to the machine is to use the little cups that come with it. You measure out a few &#8220;cups&#8221; of rice and dump it into the pot. Then you add water and fill it up to the graduated mark on the inside of the pot. So if you toss in 2 cups you add water until you hit the 2 cup mark. It has different markings for Brown, White and Sushi rice.</p>
<p>Before discovering the proper way of using the smaller &#8220;cups&#8221; I used a regular 8oz cup on some Jasmine rice (then filled it to the designated level). It still came out way better than my rice cooker. It was firm but not hard and full of flavor. So if you screw up or loose your little &#8220;cup&#8221; you can still get great rice as long as the stickness is not absolutely critical to the receipe.</p>
<p>The manual makes a huge deal out of its ability to handle some &#8220;no rinse&#8221; rice who&#8217;s milling technology was proudly developed in Japan. They devote pages to the setting and cooking it, but actually its pretty similar to the regular rice, you just use the green cup instead of the clear cup.</p>
<p>All in all this is a great little machine. If you want the best and are willing to pay the bucks this is the one to get. You will not feel your money is wasted.</p>
<p>Update:<br />Its now 6 years later and countless batches of rice and this little thing is still going strong. The pot has a few scratches from years of continous daily use but its holding up.</p>
<p>We expanded our use of this little gem. I&#8217;ve learned not to think of it as just a rice producing device but as a rice cooker + modified crock pot. My wife started using it to produce porriage and then later soup. She&#8217;ll pour the ingredients in the night before, set the timer and her breakfast is ready 30 minutes before she wakes up. You can use it for grain soups, porriage, oatmeal and more. We buy packs of Thai flavored rice that say were supposed to cook on the stove. We dump the stuff in and hit go. They come out plenty tastey.</p>
<p>There is a quick cooking cycle that we use a lot. Shaves about 20 minutes off the cook time. Flavor suffers a little (though its still great) but when your in a rush&#8230;</p>
<p>Perhaps the most amazing thing however is what it does to brown rice. As a kid I was never fond of brown rice. Too hard and crunch and I was never that big on bran flavor. We got some brown rice and started cooking it in this thing and it was a whole new world. I don&#8217;t know how it did it but it came out soft, a little chewey and decent tasting. Brown rice was now something worth eating vs avoiding.</p>
<p>So if for whatever reason you are looking to switch to brown rice but not thrilled with the flavor do yourself a favor and get one of these units. It makes it a whole new experience.</p>
<p>We haven&#8217;t tried steaming anything yet. Maybe when our steamer breaks..</p>

Baldwin<br />This rice cooker makes the best rice we have ever had &#8211; at least since our travels to Southeast Asia.  And despite the fact that this machine *seems* smarter than it&#8217;s user, it is remarkably simple to operate.  The instruction book lacks a little bit in terms of recipes and creativity &#8211; but it does a good job giving you the basic idea of how to use this machine.  This space age looking rice cooker is a little pricey, so it may be overkill for some &#8211; but I love all the features this offers and consider it well worth the price (which is a hundred less than what it is offered for here at Amazon).  We eat a lot of brown rice, which is not something that other rice cookers handle well.  This one has a setting for brown rice, and cooks it to perfection.  Also has a setting for semi-brown rice, sushi rice, porridge &amp; more.  You get to pick how soft or hard you want the rice to turn out by using the control panel.  Being able to set a timer for having rice ready when we get home from work is handy.  This thing also cooks complete meals &#8211; definitely get a good cookbook for rice cooker cooking <img src='http://getkitchenappliances.info/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />   We are expirimenting with many varieties of rice that I normally would have shyed away from, since I could not seem to cook even plain old brown rice properly until now.</p>
<p>It took me 6 months to decide to buy this thing.  We were originally contemplating the MYC10 series, but the specific settings for brown rice became important to us.  And this one takes up less space on the countertop than the MYC10.  We will be eating rice nearly every day now thanks to this machine!  I am definitely glad we chose the ZAC10, and would recommend this product.  It&#8217;s a keeper!</p>
<p>UPDATED JUNE 12, 2004:  We have now had this rice cooker for nearly a year, and have used it at least 3 times a week.  It has held up to regular use quite well, we have not had a single problem with it.  If anything, we are eating at home more than ever because of the simplicity of planning meals ahead of time.  One thing that we have learned is that the 5 cup capacity is for using the cooker for white rice.  Brown rice capacity is about 3 cups.  So if you anticipate using this for more than 3 6 oz. cups of dry brown rice, you might consider steppig up to the 10 cup capacity model ZAC18.  One tip for making very tasty rice, use a broth instead of water (or 1/2 and 1/2).  If you are on fence about this cooker go ahead and take the leap &#8211; it is fantastic!  No regrets!</p>
<p>UPDATED April 18, 2008:  Well, the &#8220;Brown Rice&#8221; setting finally died this week after nearly five (yes FIVE!) faithful years of weekly use.  We remain very pleased with this product, and plan to upgrade to the newest model in a 10 cup capacity.</p>

I am giving it a mediocre review because of the process and expense you have to go through to change the battery (even though it is only every 4 years or so).  You cannot do it.  The machine must be taken (or sent at additonal expense) to an authorized dealer who will have to desolder the battery from the circuit board for replacement.  The charge for this work is around $20 or more plus $7+ for the battery.  This process annoys me because I am sure other rice machines have a simple and inexpensive way to replace the battery (and it must be changed at some point, it won&#8217;t work without it).  Just something to be aware of.</p>

It just stopped heating up last weekend.  After some online research I found out what goes wrong.  When I plug mine in the orange light turns on and you can hear the relay click but it does not get hot.  If you are experiencing this problem and you are out of warranty please don&#8217;t throw out your waffle maker.  It can be fixed and the part is only $1.50.  The part you need is a thermal fuse and it can be found under the round stainless cover of the lower griddle. It is a 250v 240 degree celsius thermal fuse.  It is covered by a white silicon tube.  Apparently this thermal fuse overheats and blows and power no longer gets to the burners.  I have replaced the fuse and my waffle maker works again.  This is a really great product but they either have the wrong size fuse in the unit or it was defective.  Mine blew when I made a batch of waffles, turned off the unit and then turned it back on to make a second batch.  It never heated back up.  I kept my temperature control at 3.5.  I hope this helps all you waffltiers out there.  Also, the golden waffle mix is the best and you need to buy an isi brand whip cream dispenser.  You add two pints of heavy whipping cream and three table spoons of powdered sugar and have the best whip cream for those tasty waffles. The waffle maker is usually located next to the toaster, with cups of batter nearby. Those continental breakfasts are a huge reason why I now own this waffle maker: my husband fell in love with the idea of owning one ourselves.  Note that this waffle maker is essentially the same as Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless.  The only difference is a handle that folds down for easier storage &#8212; and even that may have changed since I bought my first 300 model.  Everything else is the same. Although the product description calls this &#8220;stainless steel,&#8221; only the exterior of the waffle iron itself is stainless steel; the base is a gray plastic.</p>
<p>The operation is simple. Plug it in and wait for the iron to preheat. Brush or spray a little oil on the surface. Pour batter on the nonstick grid, close the top, rotate the handle, and wait for the machine to beep when the waffle is done. Rotate the iron back to the original position, lift the lid, and remove the waffle. The whole cooking process takes about five minutes. The only real trick to operating this waffle maker is finding a good recipe. I didn&#8217;t bother trying Waring&#8217;s selections and instead found my favorite recipe online.</p>
<p>If you use a cooking spray instead of brushing on oil, make sure that you use the kind for grilling and high heat cooking. The original Pam leaves a sticky residue since it is not meant for such temperatures. A good, flavorless oil works best.</p>
<p>The whole thing cleans up in minutes, if not seconds. The nonstick grids release the waffles so cleanly that I never have to clean it. Too much batter poured onto the surface might require some exterior clean-up, but the removable metal pan underneath the waffle iron can be easily hand-washed. A temperature control allows you to control the darkness/crispness of your waffles. The manufacturer suggests a setting of 4; I found that I had to set it to 5 before I got an adequately crisp result. (This may have to do with the recipe I use as well as my personal preference for a crisp exterior.)</p>
<p>For recipes, I suggest that cooks use those that require stiff egg white folded into the batter for the classic Belgian waffle. These recipes usually only take ten minutes or so to whip up, and are not as time-consuming as those that require yeast.</p>
<p>All in all, I like this waffle maker. Now, if only my husband would make waffles at home as he does in hotels, instead of waiting for me to do it.</p>

I was shocked by all the disappointment people had with it, but it made me even more curious about what it would be like.  I have to say that even after only one use, I completely disagree with the bad reviews this waffle maker had received!</p>
<p>I understand that it would be frustrating if it dies after only a few months or even a year.  We all desire for small appliances to last a long time.  And since I just received it this week, I cannot speak to how it will fare for me, BUT, it&#8217;s performance and the pleasure of my family at breakfast this morning far outweighs my concerns about a short life span of this waffle maker.</p>
<p>It makes amazing !!! waffles.  My mom always gave me the advice that before you start trying your own recipes, use the ones that come with the machine.  So, I started out with the overnight waffle recipe from the manual.  I made it last night and then added the eggs, vanilla, and baking soda this morning per the recipe.  I followed the directions (which were wonderfully detailed) and made a batch of delicious waffles.  I started with the setting on #4 as the manual recommended and actually preferred them a little darker (in between the 4 and 5).  My husband was blown away by how light and airy the waffles were.  We (my husband, mother, and I) all agreed that we have never had a lighter, airier waffle!</p>
<p>So, I am truly excited about this waffle maker.  There are a few other reasons (besides the waffles themselves) why I love this waffle maker.  #1: There is an audible beep when it is ready to be used and it beeps when the waffle is done.  This is great for a mom like me (of 3 little ones) who is always on the go and not always within eyeshot of the waffle maker.<br />#2: There is an on/off switch.  Every other waffle maker I&#8217;ve ever seen only turns on and off with the plug in of the cord.<br />#3: The cord neatly wraps around the inside of the bottom.<br />#4: The measuring cup is the perfect guide of how much to put in for each waffle.<br />#5: The nonstick grid works great.  I sprayed it each time with cooking spray (and the directions note not to spray it until it is heated and ready for use).  I used regular cooking spray from BJ&#8217;s.  I didn&#8217;t need to pay for the expensive high heat spray and it still worked great.  I noticed another reviewer preferred that and I&#8217;m sure it works great, but if you don&#8217;t have it, your regular spray will work fine.<br />#6:  The removable tray that goes under the waffle maker makes clean up a snap!</p>
<p>I did carefully read and follow the directions which made it easy to use.  Use the enclosed measuring cup (which is packed in the carboard around the waffle maker), pour in the batter, and then turn 180 degrees, and cook.  At first, my batter oozed out along the edge.  The main reason for that is that our kitchen is a tiny bit slanted.  But, I think all houses are like that.  So, make sure you pick the counter in your kitchen that is most level.</p>
<p>As for the cost versus the life of this appliance, I have one thought to share&#8211;For my family, it would cost $45 for us to go out to breakfast and have Belgian waffles in a restaurant.  After only 2 breakfasts, this waffle maker will have paid for itself!</p>

<p>Speed  of  service  is  critical  to  the  profitability  of  a  coffee  business.  An  effective  ergonomic  store  design  will  concede  you  to  maximize  your  sales  by  serving  as  galore  clients  as  possible  for the duration of  peak  business  periods.  Even  altho  your  business  may  be  open  12  to  16  hours  a  day,  in  reality,  80%  of  your  sales  will  in all probability  occur  for the duration of  20%  of  those  hours. <p>Think  of  it  like  this;  if  an individual  pulls  open  the  front  door  of  your  store,  and  they  see  5  humans  are  waiting  in  line  to  order,  there&#8217;s  a  good  probability  they&#8217;ll  come  in,  wait  in  line,  and  make  a  purchase.  But,  if  they  see  that  20  people  are  waiting  in  line,  there  is  a  high  chance  that  they  may  determine  that  the  wait  will  be  too  long,  and  they  will  plainly  get  coffee  someplace  else.  This  is  cash  that  just  escaped  your  cash  register!  And,  if  they  come  to  your  store  multiple  times,  and  many times  find  a  long  line  of  waiting  customers,  they  may  determine  you  are  not  a  viable  option  for  coffee,  and  will  in all likelihood  never  return.  Poor  design  slows  down  the  entire  service  process,  resulting  in  a  longer  line  of  waiting  customers,  and  lost  sales.  So  in  reality,  your  each and everyday  business  income  will  be  dependent  upon  how  a good deal of  clients  you  may  serve  for the duration of  peak  business  periods,  and  good  store  design  will  be  necessary  to  achieving  that  objective!</p>
<p>The  financial  affect  of  a  poor  store  design  may  be  significant.    For  the  sake  of  this  example,  let&#8217;s  say  the  intermediate  client  dealing  for  your  coffee  business  will  be  $3.75.  If  you  have  a  line  of  waiting  clients  each  morning  amid  7:00  AM  and  8:30  AM,  this  means  you  have  90  minutes  of  <em>crunch  time</em>,  in  which  you  must  drive  through  as  a great deal of  clients  as  possible. <p>So  how  ought to  you  go  regarding  designing  your  coffee  bar?  First,  grasp  that  putting  together  a  good  design  is  like  assembling  a  puzzle.  You  have  to  fit  all  the  pieces  in  the  proper  kinship  to  each  other  to  end  up  with  the  desired  picture.  This  may  require  a heap of  trial  and  error  to  get  things  right. If  you  plan  to  have  a  private  meeting  room  for  big  groups,  then  an  extra  200  sq.  ft.  or  more  will  need  to  be  designed-in,  in  addition  to  the  square  footage  you  are  already  allocating  for  normal  client  seating.</p>
<p>Your  intended  menu  and  other  business  features  ought to  also  drive  conclusions  when it comes to  the  size  of  emplacement  you  select.  How  a great deal of  square  feet  will  be  required  to  fit  in  all  the  necessary  equipment,  fixtures,  and  other  features,  along  with  your  desired  seating  capacity?</p>

<p>So,  a  typical  1,000  sq.  ft  coffee  bar,  serving  beverages  and  simple  pastries  only,  will  in all probability  grant  for  the  seating  of  15  to  20  clients  &#8211;  max!    Increase  that  square  footage  to  1,200  sq.  ft.,  and  seating  will have to  increase  to  30,  or  35.  If  you  plan  to  prepare  sandwiches,  salads,  and  a good deal of  other  feed  items  on  site,  1,400  to  1,600  sq.  ft.  must  provide  sufficient  space  to  seat  35  to  50,  respectively.</p>
<p>Next,  you  will  have  to  determine  the  tasks  that  will  be  performed  by  each  employee  position,  so  that  the  instrumentation  and  fixtures  necessary  to  accomplish  those  tasks  may  be  located  in  the  suitable  places.</p>
<p>Normally,  your  cashier  will  operate  the  cash  register,  brew  and  serve  drip  coffee,  and  serve  pastries  and  desserts.  Your  barista  will  make  all  your  espresso-based  beverages,  tea,  chai,  hot  chocolate,  Italian  sodas,  as  well  as  all  the  blender  beverages.  If  you&#8217;ll  be  preparing  sandwiches,  panini,  wraps,  salads,  snacks  and  appetizers,  or  will  be  baking  on-site,  then  a  person  committed  to  feed  prep  will  be  necessary.  And,  if  you  expect  high  volume,  and  will  be  serving  in  or  on  ceramics,  a  bus-person/dishwasher  may  be  a  necessity.</p>
<p>After  you  have  determined  what  you  will  be  serving,  the  space  you  will  be  leasing,  and  what  each  employee  will  be  responsible  for,  you  will  then  be  ready  to  commence  your  design  process.  I  ordinarily  start out  my  design  work  from  the  back  door  of  the  space  and  work  my  way  forward.  You&#8217;ll  need  to  design  in  all  of  the  features  that  will  be  necessary  to  satisfy  your  bureaucracies  and  facilitate  your  menu,  before  you  make  plans  for  the  client  seating  area.</p>
<p>Your  back  door  will  most  likely  have  to  serve  as  an  emergency  fire  exit,  so  you&#8217;ll  need  a  hallway  connecting  it  with  your  dining  room.  Locating  your  2-ADA  restrooms  off  of  this  hallway  would  make  good  sense.    And,  because  deliverance  of  productions  will  also  in all probability  take place  through  your  back  door,  having  access  to  your  <em>back  of  the  house</em>  storage  area  would  also  be  convenient.</p>
<p>In  the  <em>back  of  the  house</em>,  at  minimum,  you  will  need  to  include  a  water  heater,  water  purification  system,  arid  storage  area,  back-up  refrigerator  and  freezer  storage,  ice  maker,  an  office,  3-compartment  ware  washing  sink,  rack  for  washed  wares,  mop  bucket  sink,  and  a  hand  washing  sink.  Do  any  feed  prep,  and  the  addition  of  a  feed  prep  sink  and  prep  table  will  be  necessary.  If  doing  baking,  gelato  making,  full  cooking,  or  coffee  roasting,  all  the  instrumentation  necessary  for  those  functions  will  also  need  to  be  added.</p>
<p>After  all  the  features  have  been  designed  into  the  <em>back  of  the  house</em>,  you  will  then  be  ready  to  commence  your  design  work  on  the  <em>front  of  the  house</em>  service  and  beverage  preparation  area.  This  area  will  probably  include  a  pastry  case,  cash  register(s),  drip  coffee  brewer  and  grinder(s),  espresso  machine  and  grinders,  a  dipper  well,  perchance  a  granita  machine,  blenders,  ice  keeping  bin,  blender  rinse  sink,  hand  washing  sink,  under  counter  refrigeration  <em>(under  espresso  machine  and  blenders)</em>,  and  a  microwave  oven.</p>
<p>If  serving  feed  beyond  simple  pastries  and  desserts,  you  may  need  to  add  a  panini  toaster  grill,  a  refrigerated  sandwich/salad  preparation  table,  soup  cooker/warmer,  a  bread  toaster,  etc.  If  you  plan  to  serve  pre  made,  ready  to  serve  sandwiches,  wraps,  and  salads,  along  with  a  selection  of  bottled  beverages,  an  open-front,  reach-in  selling  refrigerator  ought to  be  considered.    Serving  ice  cream  or  gelato?    If  the  answer  is  yes,  then  an  ice  cream  or  gelato  dipping  cabinet  will  be  necessary  along  with  an  further and added  dipper  well.</p>
<p>Finally,  when  all  the  working  areas  of  the  bar  have  been  designed,  the  client  seating  area  may  be  laid  out.  This  will,  of  course,  include  your  cafe  tables  and  chairs,  couches  and  comfortable  upholstered  chairs,  coffee  tables,  and  perhaps  a  window  or  stand-up  bar  with  bar  stools.  Impulse-buy  and  marketing  merchandise  shelves  will have to  be  established,  and  a  condiment  bar  will have to  be  located  close  to  where  clients  will  pick-up  their  beverages.</p>
<p>A  quick  word  when it comes to  couches,  big  upholstered  chairs,  and  coffee  tables.  Living  room  type  furniture  takes  up  a  lot  of  space.  If  you  plan  to  be  opening  evenings,  and  will  perchance  serve  beer  and  wine,  and  having  comfortable  seating  will  be  essential  for  creating  a  relaxing  ambiance,  then  by  all  means  do  it.  But  if  you  have  fixed  seating  space,  and  are  not  attempting  to  give hope or courage to  persons  to  relax  and  stay  for  long  periods  of  time,  then  stick  with  cafe  tables  and  chairs.  The  more  humans  you  may  seat,  the  dandier  your  income  potential!</p>
<p>Features  from  the  front  door  to  the  condiment  bar  will have to  be  arranged  in  a  logical,  sequential  order.  As  your  clients  enter  the  front  door,  their  travel  path  will have to  take  them  past  your  impulse-buy  productions  display,  and  the  pastry  case,  before  they  arrive  at  the  point  of  order  <em>(where  your  cashier,  cash  register,  and  menu-board  will  be  located).</em>  Exposing  clients  to  your  momentum  items  and  pastries,  before  they  order,  will  primarily  increase  their  sales.  Then,  after  the  order  and  payment  has  been  taken,  they  ought to  carry on  down-line  away  from  the  cash  register  to  pick-up  their  beverage,  and  finally,  the  condiment  bar  ought to  be  located  beyond  that  point.  Be  sure  to  discerned  your  point  of  order  from  the  point  of  product  pick-up  by  at  least  six  feet,  other than as supposed or expected  clients  waiting  for  their  beverage  may  start out  to  intrude  into  the  space  of  those  ordering.</p>

<p>On  the  employee&#8217;s  side  of  the  counter,  work  and  product  flow  are  even  more  important.  Any  unnecessary  steps  or  wasted  movements  that  result  from  a  less  than  optimal  design  will  slow  down  employee  production.  All  productions  will have to  flow  seamlesly  in  one  direction  towards  the  uttermost  point  of  pick-up.  For  example,  if  preparing  a  peculiar  item  is  a  3-step  process,  then  placement  of  instrumentation  will have to  concede  for  the  3  steps  to  occur  in  order,  in  one  linear  direction,  with  the  final  step  occurring  nearest  to  the  point  where  clients  will  be  served.</p>
<p>Equipment  must  be  grouped  together  so  that  it  is  in  the  prompt  proximity  of  the  employee(s)  who  will  be  using  it.  Beyond  the  actual  equipment,  empty  spaces  must  be  left  on  the  counter  top  to  store  ingredients  and  little  wares  <em>(tools)</em>  employed  in  product  preparation. A  busy  emplacement  will  most  likely  require  a  dual  or  twin,  air  pot,  drip  coffee  brewer<em>  (one  that  may  brew  2  pots  at  the  same  time),</em>  as  opposed  to  a  single  brewer.  If  you  expect  marketing  a  lot  of  blended  and  ice  drinks,  then  an  under  counter  ice  maker,  one  that  may  only  invent  100  pounds  of  ice  or  less  per  day,  will  not  be  sufficient.  You  must  rather  locate  a  high-capacity  ice  maker  <em>(one  that  may  make  400  or  500  lbs.  per  day)</em>  in  the  back  of  the  house,  and  transport  ice  to  an  ice  keeping  bin  up  front.  Plan  to  fetch  in  frozen  desserts  and  ice  cream?  Then  a  1  door  reach-in  freezer  in  the  back  of  he  house  will  in all probability  be  highly inadequate  for  you  storage  needs,  so  you&#8217;ll  need  to  consider  a  2  or  3  door.  I  always  commend  a  3-group  espresso  machine  for  any  emplacement  that  may  generate  150  drinks  per  day  or  more.  And,  I  may  tell  you  from  experience,  you  may  never  have  too  much  arid  or  refrigerated  storage  space!</p>
<p>Make  sure  that  any  instrumentation  you  select  will  be  adequate for the purpose  with  your  local  bureaucracy  before  your  buy  and  take  deliverance  of  it.    All  instrumentation  will  quintessentially  need  to  be  NSF  &amp;  UL  approved,  or  have  a  similar,  acceptable,  alien  corroboration  equivalent.    Your  bureaucracy  will  most  likely  want  to  see  manufacturer  specification  sheets  on  all  instrumentation  to  verify  this  fact,  before  they&#8217;ll  approve  your  plans.</p>
<p>ADA  <em>(American&#8217;s  with  Disabilities  Act)</em>  compliance  will  also  come  into  play  when  you  are  designing  your  coffee  bar.  In  a heap of  areas  of  the  country,  this  will  only  utilize  to  those  areas  of  your  store  that  will  be  applied  by  customers.  However,  other  bureaucracies  may  require  your  entire  store  to  be  ADA  compliant.  Following  are  galore  of  the  basic  requisites  of  compliance  with  the  code:</p>
<p>&bull;  All  hallways  and  isle  ways  ought to  be  5  feet  wide  <em>(minimum).</em></p>
<p>&bull;  All  countertop  working  heights  will have to  be  34  inches  high  <em>(instead  of  normal  36  inch  height).</em></p>
<p>&bull;  18  inches  of  free  wall  space  must  be  provided  on  the  strike-side  of  all  doors  <em>(the  side  with  the  door  knob).</em></p>
<p>&bull;  All  hand-washing  sinks  ought to  be  ADA  friendly.</p>
<p>&bull;  All  bathrooms  must  be  ADA  compliant<em>  (5  foot  space  for  wheelchair  turnaround,  handrails  at  toilet,  adequate for the purpose  clearance  around  toilet  and  hand  washing  sink,  etc.).</em></p>
<p>&bull;  No  steps  allowed,  ramps  are  OK  with  the  proper  slope.</p>
<p>&bull;  If  your  space  has  multiple  levels,  then  no  feature  may  subsist  on  a  level  where  handicapped  access  has  not  been  provided,  if  that  same  feature  does  not  subsist  on  a  level  where  it  will  be  accessible.</p>

<p>Beyond  the  basic  <strong>Equipment  Floor  Plan</strong><em>,</em>  showing  new  partitions,  cabinets,  equipment,  fixtures,  and  furnishings,  you&#8217;ll  need  to  manufacture  a lot of  further and added  drawings  to  guide  your  contractors  and  satisfy  the  bureaucracies.</p>
<p><strong>Electrical  Plan</strong></p>
<p>An  electrical  plan  will  be  necessary  to  show  the  emplacement  of  all  outlets  necessitated  to  operate  equipment. <p>In  addition  to  the  electrical  work  required  for  your  coffee  business-specific  equipment,  you  may  need  to  adjust  existent  electrical  for  further and added  or  reconfigured  lighting,  HVAC,  general-purpose  comfortableness  outlets,  and  exterior  signs.  Also,  have  your  electrician  run  any  necessitated  speaker  wires,  TV/internet  cables,  and  cash  register  remote  receipt  printer  cables  at  the  same  time  they  are  installing  electrical  wires.  Finally,  make  sure  your  electrician  makes  provisions  for  lighted  exit  signs,  and  a  battery-powered  emergency  evacuation  lighting  system,  if  needed.</p>
<p><strong>Plumbing  Plan</strong></p>
<p>A  plan  showing  all  plumbing  features  will  be  necessary.  At  minimum,  this  will have to  show  stub-in  emplacements  for  all  necessitated  water  origins  <em>(hot  &amp;  cold),</em>  drains,  your  water  heater,  water  purifications  system,  grease  interceptor  <em>(if  required),</em>  bathroom  fixtures,  etc.</p>
<p>While  a  typical  <em>P-trap</em>  drain  will have to  be  adequate for the purpose  for  most  fixtures  and  equipment,  a good deal of  will  require  an  <em>air-gap</em>  drain.    An  air  gap  drain  does  not  go  through  the  &#8220;S&#8221;-shaped  twists  of  the  P-trap.  Instead,  the  drain  line  comes  straight  down  from  the  piece  of  instrumentation  or  fixture,  and  terminates  2  inches  above  the  rim  of  a  porcelain  floor  sink  drain.    This  porcelain  drain  basin  is  commonly  installed  directly  into  the  floor.    The  air  gap  amid  the  drain  line  from  your  instrumentation  or  fixture,  and  the  bottom  of  the  basin,  prevents  any  bacteria  in  the  sewer  pipe  from  migrating  into  the  instrumentation  or  fixture.    I  drain  the  following  pieces  of  instrumentation  to  a  floor  sink  drain  when  creating  a  plumbing  plan:</p>
<p>&bull;  espresso  machine</p>
<p>&bull;  dipper  wells</p>
<p>&bull;  ice  maker</p>
<p>&bull;  ice  keeping  bin</p>
<p>&bull;  feed  prep  sink</p>
<p>&bull;  soft  drink  dispensing  equipment</p>
<p>To  save  on  the  life  of  your  water  filtration  system,  only  your  espresso  machine  and  coffee  brewer  will have to  be  supplied  by  with  treated  water.  Coffee  is  98%  to  99%  water,  so  good  water  quality  is  essential.  Your  ice  maker  must  only  require  a  simple  particle  filter  on  the  incoming  line<em>  (unless  your  water  quality  is  terrible).  </em>  There  is  no  need  to  filter  water  that  will  be  employed  for  hand  and  dish  washing,  cleaning  mops,  flushing  toilets,  and  washing  floors!</p>
<p>Be  conscious  that  a lot of  bureaucracies  are  now  calling for  a  grease  interceptor  on  the  drain  line  from  your  3-compartment  ware  washing  sinks  and  automatic  dishwasher.  A  grease  interceptor  is  basically  a  box  containing  baffles  that  traps  the  grease  before  it  may  enter  the  public  sewer  system.</p>
<p>Also  comprehend  that  a  typical  marketing  space  will  not  come  equipped  with  a  water  heater  with  sufficient  capacity  to  handle  your  needs.  Unless  your  space  was  antecedently  galore  type  of  a  feed  service  operation,  you  will  in all probability  need  to  replace  it  with  a  more spectacular  one.</p>
<p>If  cutting  trenches  in  the  floor  will  be  necessary  to  install  porcelain  floor  sinks,  a  grease  interceptor,  and  run  drain  lines,  then  establishing  a  few  usual  intention  floor  drains  at  this  same  time  behind  the  counter,  and  in  the  back  of  the  house,  will  prove  useful. Where  do  you  want  drawers,  and  under  counter  storage  space;  and,  where  do  you  want  cabinet  doors  on  that  beneath  counter  storage?  Where  must  open  space  be  left  for  the  placement  of  under  counter  refrigeration  and  trashcans?  Will  cup  dispensers  be  installed  in  the  cabinet  face  beneath  the  counter  top?  These  elevations  will  provide  your  cabinetmaker  with  a  clear  understanding  of  all  these  features.</p>
<p>While  your  kitchen  base  cabinets  at  home  are  specifically  24  inches  deep,  for  mercantile  apps  they  must  be  30  inches  deep,  and  33  inches  if  an  under  counter  refrigerator  is  to  be  inserted.  Also,  when  specifying  the  size  of  an  open  bay  to  accommodate  beneath  counter  refrigeration,  be  sure  to  concede  a  couple  of  inches  more  than  the  physical  dimensions  of  the  equipment,  so  that  it  may  be  without apparent effort  inserted  and  got rid of  for  each and everyday  cleaning.</p>
<p><strong>Dimensions  Plan</strong></p>
<p>You  will  need  to  formulate  a  floor  plan  showing  all  the  critical  dimensions  for  new  partitions,  doors,  cabinets,  and  fixtures.  This  will,  of  course,  aid  make  sure  that  everything  ends  up  where  it  is  suppose  to  be,  and  will  be  the  right  size.</p>

Many  older  buildings  were  not  designed  to  present  codes.  If  the  business  type  remains  the  same  <em>(your  space  was  occupied  by  a  feed  service  institution  before  you)</em>,  then  galore  times  any  non  compliant  features  will  be  <em>grandfathered-in,  </em>meaning  you  don&#8217;t  have  to  fetch  them  up  to  current  requirements.  But  don&#8217;t  count  on  this!  You  need  to  check  with  your  bureaucracies  to  make  sure.  More  and  more  I  see  bureaucracies  necessitating  new  business  owners  to  remodel,  so  that  all  features  are  compliant  with  codes.  This  means  you  may  have  to  rip-out  bathrooms  and  hallways,  add  fire  sprinkler  systems,  and  provide  ramps  where  there  are  steps.  Better  you  know  all  these  things  before  you  get started  your  store  design!</p>
<p>I  always  tell  my  consulting  clients,  that  if  I  construct  a  perfective  design  and  layout  for  them,  they  will  never  notice&#8230;  because  everything  will  be  incisively  where  you  would  suppose  it  to  be.  Unfortunately,  if  you  fabricate  a  less  than  optimal  design  for  your  coffee  bar,  you  probably  won&#8217;t  realize  it  until  you  commence  working  in  it.  Changing  design  errors  or  inadequacies  after  the  fact,  may  be  exceedingly  expensive.  Not  correcting  those  faults  may  even  cost  you  more  in  lost  potential  sales.  For  this  reason,  I  strongly  suggest  using  an  experienced  coffee  business  space  architect  to  construct  your  layout  for  you,  or  at  very  least,  to  review  the  design  you  have  created.  Doing  so  will  payoff  with  dividends.</p>

As usual you have to practice, practice, practice.</p>
<p>Here are a few recommendations:<br />Ditch the plastic crepe helper. It&#8217;s similar to the foaming helpers in Espresso machines, it gets total novices over the initial contact hump but quickly stops you from making any decent progress with the product (Crepe). The tool creates a messy experience and creates uneven crepes.</p>
<p>Second ditch the scraper. It&#8217;s very hard to get good crepes if you prefer the very liquid kind of dough (which I like). Instead get a round Birchwood scraper. They tend to be larger as well ( 8 inches or so). The round surface allows you to evenly spread the dough ( AMAZON sells them )</p>
<p>Third ditch the spatula. It&#8217;s simply to short. If you make a real crepe, a really thin crepe the provided spatula will just pierce through the crepe when you lift it to turn or take off the crepe maker. I got a 23 inch Birchwood spatula and am very happy with it.</p>
<p>Fourth: There is no magic to crepe if you follow my advice, use this great crepe maker and practice, practice, practice. I use a simple crepe recipe. You need to play with the temperature and times a bit. My crepes are done within 50s on the first side and 30s for the other side. Experiment and watch videos on the internet.</p>

Brannock<br />I bought this in July 2009 for a Bastille Day party &#8211; it was a huge hit!  I practiced a few days before the party and couldn&#8217;t have been happier.  Thought it was a little pricey, but has proven to be worth every cent.  Fist crepe or two will be a mess, but just keep trying.  MAJOR improvement from just using a frying pan.  The flat surface allows you to  make larger and thinner crepes.  We do not use the pre-measured well or scoop.  We do use the wooden tools that are included and that is all you need, I just pour an amount in the middle and can eyeball the correct amount.  Then I quickly spread with the wooden t-shaped tool to spread the batter evenly.  Watch YouTube videos of crepe making to get the process down.  We do not grease our surface before cooking b/c I use a recipe from the internet that contains melted butter and nothing ever sticks.  This item cooks EVENLY and I use setting 3 for my crepes &#8211; other setting cook to fast for me.  I do not use the included recipe book, but they do look good.  I typically make my mix in the blender and it keeps for 48 hours, allowing me to whip out a crepe for breakfast and dinner 2 days in a row.  I also like to cook one side, then flip, then crack an egg on top of the cooked side, let it cook for 1 or 2 minutes, then flip again and add cheese with enough time to melt and then fold and serve.  Got this idea from YouTube video of a pro crepe maker.  Ignore videos of crepe makers that are not on the street cooking crepes in front of customers &#8211; the other videos are a huge waste of time!  Long and short of it &#8211; GREAT investment for your kitchen!!  I even take mine on vacation to the beach!  Enjoy!</p>

Setzer<br />I have used this product twice and I am very impressed with the uniform cooking of this Crepe maker.  The large 13&#8243; nonstick surface makes perfect crepes everytime&#8230; no more throwing out the first crepe!  The plactic spreading device makes it easy to evenly spread the batter for beginners.  The crepe maker is much more substantial than the picture shows, in my opinion.  I found the suggested thermostat settings a little too hot causing the crepes to brown too quickly but, after lowering the temperature, I was knocking out multiple banana/Nutella crepes in a matter of minutes.  The results are much more like the crepes I got in Paris than ones I&#8217;ve made in a crepe pan.</p>
